Proudly founded as AIDS Vancouver

We were here at the very beginning.

In August 1983, AIDS Vancouver became one of the first AIDS organizations in Canada. Founded merely months after the discovery of what we now know as HIV, AIDS Vancouver began as a group of gay men taking care of each other.

We updated our name, purpose and values in 2024 to ensure we can support and empower the generation that built AIDS Vancouver and many more people impacted by HIV and stigma for as long as we are needed. As Ribbon Community, we pull the past, present, and future of the HIV response together.

Our Story

40+ years supporting and empowering communities.

In March 2024, we became Ribbon Community, a name we chose to pull the past, present and future of the HIV movement together.

Inspired by the iconic red ribbon, we continue to hold the realities of AIDS as much as we can, alongside what it is like to navigate HIV today, whether we are HIV-negative or living with HIV. Our work includes supporting and empowering people living with HIV, those of us impacted by HIV stigma, and whatever our HIV status.
